Butterflies

Bright rainbows of Summer waft through the warm air
emerging from Winter's drab chambers with care.
Like countryside gardens of beauty with wings,
dressed in iridescence much finer than Kings.

Kaliedoscope colors they share with all men;
so why do we mount them, for show, on a pin?
Do we save them from a more terrible fate?
Humanity, wake up before it's too late.

Life lasting a moment, too soon it will end.
The beauty in life on Man's will does depend
but Man, in his wisdom, has poisoned all things.
Now rain falls like acid on flowers with wings.

Inspired by Rafal Olbinski OMNI cover art, Sept '90

Future
not
Far

Our planned obsolescence encircles the world.
From windows of autos, our garbage we hurled.
We cut down our forests to make a new home
and caged all our animals so they can't roam.

The smoke pours from factories, poisoning air.
Those beautiful songbirds don't need to be there!
We ruin our atmosphere 'till it's no more.
Wise men publish warnings but they're such a bore.

Fuel oil and our effluent pour in the sea,
while giant corporations count profits with glee.
We butcher our oceans for Man needs to eat.
Soon we shall be eating that poisonous meat.

Too late! We awaken to what we have done.
Our cancerous bodies are kissed by the Sun.
"Convenience is everything", Man always said.
Now Mother Earth's barren, and Man is long dead.

Rest in Peace

He Knew

The final scream of Mankind fell from parched lips without sound.
His final teardrops, wept long since, are salt on sere dead ground.
The killer species of this orb, at last, is laid to rest.
Now Earth can heal her gruesome wounds, awaiting Her next guest.

Man never gave much thought to what was wrought by thoughtless deeds.
His every course of action led to selfish wants and needs.
Some insane motivation guided him throughout his age.
Though graced with sentience and soul, he's turned his final page.

No tombstone need be carved with care to mark his resting place
for Mother Earth is testimony to his sad disgrace.
Unlike the other creatures, now extinct and gone from view,
the creature known as Man was wise. He knew!
My God, he knew!

Mistreated

So mindless! Endanger One's love, or a stranger;
caresses doled with miser hands.
Mans constant abuses, Death's rictus seduces.
Time passes in hourglass sands.

Lay waste Nature's Mother. Bruise flesh and scar cover.
Death deep the foul pools you create.
Long ages, mistreated, slow poison secreted
upon Her pain's horrible weight.

Hot tears of gray acid mar faces once placid;
burn beauty from body and soul.
No quenching the fire, Fate's flames ever higher,
Inferno! Soon out of control.

Consumed... Deadly creatures deface Her fair features
with sickening thoughtless misdeed.
Life's seed, harshly planted, solace never granted;
we harvest the black crops of greed.

Road's end drawing nearer, Her plight seen no clearer.
When justice is dealt we all lose.
Beware Man! The carnage created from Her rage.
Revenge is the balm She will choose.

Mother Earth - Deceased

Once a jewel, all alone
like a Queen upon Her throne.
Beauty there for all to see,
full of life and harmony.

Lustful scars now mar Her face,
peace and kindness have no place.
Evil creatures cut and slash,
leaving naught but filth and trash.

Disemboweled and ripped apart,
maggots eating out Her heart.
Greedy beasts devour and sate,
bleached white bones are left to fate.

Foul Her flesh and burn Her blood!
Caustic tears fall like a flood.
Beauty blackened, washed away
bringing forth Her final day.

Oceans

Undulating on eternal, pulverizing shells to sand,
Natures cradle, rhythmic rocking, slow consuming once lost land.
Womb of infinite creation through the eons, fecund still.
Larder of uncounted creatures, always ready to fulfill.

Ages past it did engender mindlessness upon the earth.
Now this sapient conception devastates its place of birth.
Squandering its sustenance and poisoning what does remain.
Oleaginous and dying, sing we now the last refrain.

Everlasting, now encumbered by this creatures filth and waste
Naught to offer to the dying; salty tears and bitter taste.
Witness to the worlds extinction as it was when life began.
Once a cradle, now a grave, and guilt lays heavy on all Man.

God forgive us, For we know what we do.

Remember

Please! Try to understand my son. That's how it used to be,
when grass was green and skies were blue and you could find a tree.
You say you've never heard of trees and thought the sky was gray?
I know, my child! They are all gone. That's how it is today.

The sky was like your sister's eyes. I know, she's gone now too,
and yes, the sky's a dirty gray but what I say is true.
The grass? It was a carpet, son; with creatures hid inside.
No! All the creatures are now gone and all the grass has died.

What was a tree? I can't explain it so you'd understand.
Like giants they were, with arms spread wide and leaves upon their hand.
A question waits upon your lips that I've no answer to.
You see, the leaves are also gone. No, I don't lie to you.

Don't walk away in doubt, my son, with teardrops in your eye.
Believe these words I tell you now for we're the last to die.
Too soon I'll leave you all alone. My time is drawing near.
Remember how it was, my son. Death's all that's left. Don't fear.

Tombstone Dust

No reason for demise, just fact
egress to grave, the final stop.
Mankind, insane with lust, attacked
the Earth; demanding blood's last drop.

Go! Scream thine anguish to the night
and let dark winds waft it away.
Shake Heaven's stars with hatred's might;
release those feelings, cold and gray.

Death comes but once, He doesn't reign.
Life's hourglass sands end the farce.
His final visit stops the pain.
Man rides with fate upon pale horse.

Earth Mother's wounds, in time do mend,
bring unseen form to fruitful fore.
Tread once again to Eden's end
ere Heavens dim; to start once more.
